Alicante (06/10/23). Alicante native Jorge Crivillés will swim between the islands of Tabarca and Benidorm on November 4 in support of research into pediatric leukemia conducted by the Alicante Institute for Health and Biomedical Research (ISABIAL) at Dr. Balmis Hospital. Specifically, the crossing aims to fund the research line led by the Head of the Pediatric Oncology Section, Dr. María Tasso, and the Head of the Hematology Department, Dr. Fabián Tarín. To encourage the solidarity campaign, the RC7 Swimming Association has made an initial contribution of €1,000.
The challenge faced by the swimmer is sponsored by the Asisa Foundation, which will cover the organizational costs of the crossing, as well as supported by the Spanish Cancer Patients Group (GEPAC) and the Spanish Association for Lymphoma, Myeloma and Leukemia (AEAL), which will be present during the event.
The estimated date, November 4, may vary depending on weather conditions, and as planned, the swimmer will start the route from Tabarca Island and finish at Benidorm Island.
For the first time, swimmer Jorge Crivillés is asking society to support this cause through a financial contribution. The funds will be entirely allocated to projects of the Alicante Institute for Health and Biomedical Research in order to advance research into pediatric leukemia.
People interested in making a donation to this cause can do so through the “Reto Solidario nadador Jorge Crivillés contra la Leucemia Pediátrica” option in ISABIAL’s donation form, which can be accessed via the “Collaborate” button on the website www.isabial.es.
Incentive
As a starting boost for the fundraising campaign, the RC7 Swimming Association, to which Jorge Crivillés belongs, has made an initial donation of €1,000.
For this reason, the association’s president, Francisco Javier Varo, and Jorge Crivillés recently visited Dr. Balmis Hospital ISABIAL, where they were received by ISABIAL’s Deputy Scientific Director, Cristina Aienda, as well as researcher María Tasso and researcher Fabián Tarín, who thanked the association for its donation and the swimmer for choosing ISABIAL to allocate the funds raised through this solidarity challenge.

The presentation of the crossing took place on Saturday, November 21 at the Archaeological Museum of Alicante (MARQ) and was attended by the President of the Provincial Council and Mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and the Mayor of Alicante, Luis Barcala.
Also in attendance were the Medical Deputy Director of Dr. Balmis Hospital, Rosario García; the Managing Director of ISABIAL, Elena Bertomeu; and the ASISA delegate in Alicante, Paula Giménez.
