Alicante (30.12.24). The Regional Ministry of Health has awarded the construction works for the new building of the Alicante Institute for Health and Biomedical Research (ISABIAL) for 13.3 million euros, with an execution period of 24 months. The new facility will be located within the complex of the Doctor Balmis General University Hospital in Alicante.
The future building will expand the capacity of the health research centre to bring together the 44 research groups across ISABIAL’s five areas. The health and biomedical research centre currently has more than 600 researchers distributed among the different groups, as well as a broad portfolio of platforms and support units for research.
The new building will be constructed on the site previously occupied by the hospital garden and will have a total floor area of 6,194 square metres distributed across several levels.
Currently, ISABIAL’s research staff is spread across several care areas within the hospital complex, and the commissioning of this new building will make it possible to bring the different research groups together and expand the space dedicated to scientific work. In this way, the new facility will provide a significant boost to the province of Alicante’s excellence‑driven biomedical research activity.
Moderno edificio de tres plantas
The regional government will construct a modern three‑storey building that will include an administrative area with offices, meeting rooms and restrooms, as well as a section dedicated to the data‑processing and communications centre. In addition, the building will house a teaching area with classrooms and simulation spaces.
The new building will include a fully equipped laboratory area featuring a freezer room, a nitrogen‑tank room, and dedicated spaces for centrifugation and sequencing, among others.
Moreover, the new facilities will also house the Clinical Trials Unit, including a waiting area, a day‑hospital‑style room with beds, and a medical consultation space.
Finally, the new building will also include space for the Research Support Laboratory and the Clinical Trials Unit, among other ISABIAL services.
