Cell Processing Platform for the Advanced Therapies Unit of ISABIAL

Project reference number: IFEQ21/00201
Brief description of the objective or purpose of the grant:

Acquisition of scientific infrastructure. The platform is designed for clinical‑grade cell processing and will enable immunomagnetic separation of different cell types, their genetic manipulation, and their expansion and culture — all within the same equipment. Specifically, the aim is to obtain haematopoietic progenitor cells (CD34+) and lymphocytes through apheresis using a magnetically activated cell sorting (MACS) system. This system employs antibody‑conjugated particles containing iron, which can be retained or released by applying or interrupting a magnetic field. After several automated washing steps, most of the liquid is removed, and the selected cells are subsequently eluted from the column once the magnetic field is turned off.
