Description
The ISABIAL Epidemiology Platform provides specialized support to researchers throughout all stages of the healthcare research process. Linked to the Epidemiology Unit of the Preventive Medicine Service at Dr. Balmis General University Hospital, the platform supports research groups in the methodological design of their studies, the development and management of databases, statistical and biostatistical analysis, and training in research methodology.
Our goal is to enhance the methodological quality and scientific rigor of projects carried out within the ISABIAL environment, providing researchers with the knowledge and tools needed to generate robust and reproducible evidence.

The platform structures its support into four major service areas that cover the entire research project cycle: from data collection and management to analysis, project development, and training of the research team.
- Recommendations for data collection and variable coding.
- Data anonymization or pseudonymization.
- Design and development of databases (Excel, SPSS, SQL, and Access).

Functions and echniques
The Epidemiology Platform focuses its expertise on the methodological design of studies and the rigorous management of research data, supported by standardized tools that ensure the quality and traceability of information.
Methodological design
Guidance on the design of epidemiological and evaluative studies: definition of variables, protocol design, and planning of data collection.
Development of secure and traceable databases, data pseudonymization in compliance with data protection regulations, and harmonization within the REDCap environment.
Training research teams in research methodology, advanced epidemiology, and data management and analysis tools.
Data confidentiality
The Epidemiology and Bioinformatics Platform recommends removing patients’ SIP and ID numbers (DNI) from any datasets provided to this unit. A patient identifier code must be generated in accordance with pseudonymization guidelines.
The principal investigator will be responsible for complying with the above guidelines and for ensuring that informed consent has been obtained from all participants in the project.
