The Generalitat funds a platform for analyzing scientific texts that uses artificial intelligence to discover new lines of research in healthcare

ISABIAL, the University of Alicante and Difusión Comunicación Integral S.L. collaborate with other agents of the innovation system in the development of the project

This analysis platform will facilitate decision-making for scientific groups by detecting trends in a vast compilation of specialized texts

Alicante (14/12/23). The Generalitat, through the Regional Ministry of Innovation, Industry, Trade and Tourism, is funding the development of a text analysis program capable of understanding and representing the content and relationships of scientific documents, with the aim of identifying research trends in a much faster and more accessible way

The Alicante Institute for Health and Biomedical Research (ISABIAL), the Natural Language Processing research group (GPLSI) of the Department of Language and Information Systems (DLSI) at the University of Alicante, and the agency Difusión Comunicación S.L. are leading this initiative, which optimizes the data collection process. This work is also supported by different agents of the Valencian innovation system

This project has the financial support of the Valencian Innovation Agency (AVI) and funding from the European Union within the framework of the Comunitat Valenciana FEDER program for the 2021–2027 period

The objective of this development, which uses Natural Language Processing (NLP) so that Artificial Intelligence (AI) can understand the full context of human language, is to develop a flexible, scalable, and robust technological architecture aimed at processing and managing large volumes of data that form the basis of advanced analysis.
In addition, the design and implementation

In addition, the design and implementation of a pilot test are planned to validate and evaluate the effectiveness of the technologies developed in a real context, applied to a key area such as the healthcare sector.

In this sense, the platform makes it possible to achieve better results and greater knowledge in the field of health through the analysis of digital documents of a scientific-technical nature, providing a valuable tool for healthcare research centers.

Nevertheless, this application is not limited to the healthcare field; its potential use could extend to other sectors of activity. The good results obtained by the prototype in laboratory tests guarantee the “extraction of knowledge” from any compilation of data and constitute a differentiating element of the project.

Cooperation with other stakeholders

The initiative stems from the cooperation between the GPLSI of the University of Alicante, a reference in research in the field of natural language processing and human language technologies, which since 1993 has worked in the subfield of Artificial Intelligence; together with the Alicante Institute for Health and Biomedical Research (ISABIAL), which forms a multidisciplinary biomedical research space integrated by the Alicante-General Hospital Health Department, the University of Alicante and the Miguel Hernández University. The consortium is completed by the agency Difusión Comunicación S.L., a full-service communication company specialized in advertising and digital marketing.

However, in the development and validation of T2KNOW, different technology centers are also collaborating, such as the Information Technology Institute (ITI), dedicated to research, development and innovation in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), and the Plastics Technology Institute (AIMPLAS), a reference in this sector. Finally, the platform has also maintained contacts with validating entities such as INCLIVA and Vicky Food, among others.

This project is aligned with the conclusions of the Strategic Committee for Specialized Innovation (CEIE) in Enabling Technologies, which encourages the development of platforms, services and advanced analytics and data visualization models that help decision-making (Business Intelligence). In addition, T2KNOW is part of the Smart Specialization Strategy of the Valencian Community, S3, coordinated by the Regional Ministry of Innovation, Industry, Trade and Tourism.
