ISABIAL presents its platforms and support services for biomedical research

  • The Alicante research institute brings together research and healthcare personnel to showcase the scientific infrastructure that supports the research activity of the Alicante–General Hospital Health Department

Alicante (13.03.26). The Alicante Institute for Health and Biomedical Research (ISABIAL) held the first Presentation Day of its Research Support Platforms and Services, an event focused on the scientific infrastructure that underpins the research activity carried out at the Alicante Health and Biomedical Research Institute.

The event was opened by the Director General for Research and Innovation, Mariola Penadés; the Managing Director of the Alicante–General Hospital Health Department, Francisco Soriano; the Scientific Director of ISABIAL, Paloma Vela; and the Vice-Rector for Research at the University of Alicante, Juan Mora.

The event highlighted the value of the platforms and support units available at the institute, key structures for driving biomedical research projects and strengthening an increasingly robust, interconnected scientific ecosystem focused on generating high‑impact knowledge.

ISABIAL’s Scientific Director, Dr. Paloma Vela, highlighted that “the platforms represent an essential working network that makes it possible to transform an idea into a project, and a project into knowledge that is useful to society”. In this regard, she stressed that “the work carried out by these units—often not very visible—is essential to ensuring the quality, feasibility, and impact of biomedical research”.

During the event, fourteen platforms and units that make up ISABIAL’s research support structure were presented, organized into three main areas: Biobank and Biomodels, Clinical Research Support, and Scientific‑Technical Support. These units form a fundamental support network for the healthcare and research staff of the Alicante–General Hospital Health Department, as well as for the teams of the two universities linked to the institute, the University of Alicante and the Miguel Hernández University of Elche.

Likewise, the scientific platforms act as a structure that organizes and strengthens the institute’s research activity, facilitating the work of professionals and promoting the generation of biomedical knowledge aimed at improving population health.

ISABIAL’s platforms, resources, and infrastructures are available to the research and healthcare staff of the Alicante–General Hospital Health Department and the universities linked to the institute, as well as to the business sector of the province of Alicante. All information about their services and portfolio is available on the ISABIAL website.
