ISABIAL highlights the value of its Business Innovation Scientific Unit at the ‘One Health City’ advisory circle meeting

Alicante (12.05.2026).– The Alicante Institute for Health and Biomedical Research (ISABIAL) has taken part in the ‘One Health City Advisory Circle Meeting’, an initiative organized by Alicante Futura through the Local Development Agency of the Alicante City Council, Impulsalicante. The session focused on how to apply the One Health approach to the design of healthier, more sustainable, and prevention‑oriented cities.

The meeting, held at the Gymnasium of Ideas in Plaza Séneca, brought together experts, organizations, and institutions linked to health, tourism, the environment, water, sustainability, innovation, and urban governance, in a strategic reflection session on the model of a healthy, sustainable, innovative, and resilient city toward which the capital of Alicante should evolve in the coming years.

Specifically, the event included the participation of public, healthcare, scientific, technological, tourism, and business entities from the province, such as the Alicante City Council, the Costa Blanca Tourism Board (Alicante Provincial Council), the Official College of Physicians of Alicante, Aguas de Alicante, LABAQUA, the University of Alicante, HOSBEC, APHA, The Ocean Race, FUNDEUN, AlicanTEC, Vithas, TAMBRE, CdT, and ISABIAL, among others.

Representing ISABIAL, the scientific director, Paloma Vela, attended together with Innovation Agents Carla Ordiñana and Olga Jornet, who highlighted the strategic role of the health research institute within Alicante’s business and innovation ecosystem.

During the session, they highlighted the importance of collaboration among the different stakeholders in the city through key initiatives such as the Business Innovation Scientific Unit (UCIE), aimed at strengthening knowledge transfer and cooperation with the surrounding business sector.

They also emphasized the promotion of Public Procurement of Innovation (PPI) as a tool to accelerate the incorporation of innovative solutions into the healthcare system, as well as the need to advance in cross‑cutting areas such as data sharing within public administration.
