ISABIAL and Doctor Balmis Hospital celebrate ‘Hospitalized Children’s Day’ with personalized letters and gifts for pediatric patients

  • The Azarbe Group has donated a gift accompanied by a handwritten letter for each child admitted to the hospital
  • The initiative seeks to strengthen emotional well‑being and humanize the healthcare provided to hospitalized children

Alicante (13.05.26). The Alicante Institute for Health and Biomedical Research (ISABIAL) and Doctor Balmis University General Hospital have joined the commemoration of ‘Hospitalized Children’s Day’ with a solidarity initiative promoted by the Azarbe Group and aimed at pediatric patients at the center.

The initiative consisted of delivering a gift accompanied by a handwritten, personalized letter for each child admitted to the Pediatrics unit, as well as for those boys and girls who receive periodic treatment at the Pediatric Oncology day hospital. Each message was prepared individually, with words of encouragement, warmth, and recognition, adapted to the age and situation of each patient.

This solidarity initiative reinforces the commitment of the three entities to the humanization of healthcare and places the emotional well‑being of pediatric patients at the center of care.

Emotional well‑being and humanization

The volunteer team from the Azarbe Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility department was responsible for preparing the gifts for the children, while ISABIAL coordinated the management of the donation.

ISABIAL’s managing director, Elena Bertomeu, emphasized that ‘quality healthcare is not measured only in clinical terms, but also in the ability to provide emotional support to patients and their families’.

The management teams of Doctor Balmis Hospital and ISABIAL also wished to highlight the value of this type of initiative. ‘Small gestures such as a letter or a small gift can have a great impact on the emotional well‑being of pediatric patients’, Bertomeu noted.

The day unfolded in a warm and participatory atmosphere, in which excitement played a central role. Initiatives like this reinforce the commitment of Doctor Balmis Hospital and ISABIAL to comprehensive care, where research, clinical assistance, and emotional support advance in a coordinated manner.

The celebration of ‘Hospitalized Children’s Day’ aims to raise awareness of the reality faced by thousands of children who spend part of their childhood in hospitals, as well as to acknowledge the work of healthcare professionals and organizations that help improve their daily lives.
