Alicante (27.01.23). The Alicante Institute for Health and Biomedical Research (ISABIAL) has organized the second edition of the INNOVA Summit, held today, January 27, in the auditorium and skylight hall of the Dr. Balmis University General Hospital. This partnering event aims to facilitate bilateral meetings between researchers from different institutions, companies, scientific parks, and technology centers, with the goal of identifying common interests, exchanging offers and needs, and exploring potential collaboration opportunities in the fields of biomedicine and health‑related biotechnology.

The day began with the institutional opening ceremony, which featured the participation of the Regional Secretary for Healthcare Efficiency and Technology, Concha Andrés, accompanied by the Manager of the Alicante–General Hospital Health Department, Miguel Ángel García; ISABIAL’s Deputy Scientific Director, Cristina Alenda; the Director of the Knowledge Transfer Secretariat at the University of Alicante (UA), José Luis Todolí; and the Assistant Vice‑Rector for Research at Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH), Miguel Ángel Sogorb.
Ray Vicente, CEO and founder of ICU Medical Technologies and ISABIAL researcher, presented “Kronosafe: The New Temporary Cardiac Pacing System.” The session continued with a presentation on ITEMAS, the Platform for the Promotion and Innovation of Industrial Capabilities within the National Health System and their Effective Transfer to the Productive Sector, promoted by the Carlos III Health Institute. The presentation was delivered by its coordinator, Lluís Blanch, who also serves as Director of the I3PT Research and Innovation Institute at the Parc Taulí Health Corporation.
The program continued with the round table “Keys to Fostering Public‑Private Collaboration,” moderated by ISABIAL’s Deputy Scientific Director for Innovation, Óscar Moreno. The panel featured Gonzalo Belenguer, Director of the Network of Technological Institutes of the Valencian Community (REDIT); Rubén García, Secretary of the Business Confederation of the Valencian Community (CEV) in Alicante; Antonio Gonzálvez, Secretary of the Research Center on Ageing; Javier Sancho, Director of the Entrepreneurship Area at the Miguel Hernández University Science Park in Elche; José Luis Todolí, Director of the Knowledge Transfer Secretariat at the University of Alicante; Lluís Blanch, Coordinator of the Platform for the Promotion and Innovation of Industrial Capabilities of the National Health System and their Effective Transfer to the Productive Sector (ITEMAS); and Gema Tur, Head of the Innovation Unit at the Valencian Innovation Agency.
After this first part, the event continued with a matchmaking session in which around twenty health‑related challenges and solutions were presented. In a fast‑paced three‑minute format, 22 proposals or research lines were showcased by different ISABIAL research groups, the Universities of Alicante and Miguel Hernández, as well as various companies and technology centers. The day concluded with a series of meetings held in the INNOSPACE, where participants and attendees came together to explore synergies for developing health innovation projects.
The event featured workshops led by ISABIAL’s Alicante Simulation and Innovation Laboratory (SimIA) and by the HeFMob project, “Gamification System for the Rehabilitation of Patients with Heart Failure”.
