The ISABIAL Neuroscience Research Group studies neurological diseases such as dementia, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, ALS, and multiple sclerosis, among others.
Neurological diseases are, along with cancer, the main health challenge of the 21st century in developed countries.
At ISABIAL, studies are conducted that address diagnosis, prognosis, factors that may cause disease, and the biological processes underlying diseases, with the aim of identifying mechanisms to modify their progression or even achieve their cure.
As a result of ongoing research efforts, genes that cause certain diseases have been identified, along with treatments or lifestyle changes that can improve their progression, as well as markers that help predict how a disease will evolve and guide the selection of the most appropriate treatment.
Research on these types of diseases is essential due to their significant social impact, and because gaining a better understanding of their mechanisms and triggers may lead to more effective treatments.
