Communication and Scientific Outreach Area

Mission

Communicate and disseminate the scientific and management activities carried out at the Alicante Health and Biomedical Research Institute (ISABIAL), with a special focus on spreading news related to the research center, including clinical developments, research breakthroughs, and events linked to ISABIAL, as well as other activities.

Main functions

  • Plan the research center’s communication strategy through the preparation and execution of an internal and external communication plan.
  • Coordinate the activities carried out jointly with the Communications Office of the Alicante-General Hospital Health Department.
  • Prepare a daily press clipping report that collects all scientific and healthcare news that may be of interest to the Institute.
  • Disseminate the results of the research, healthcare, and teaching activities carried out by ISABIAL to both a general and specialized audience.
  • Create content and maintain the website, Intranet, and social media channels of ISABIAL.
  • Prepare press releases, official statements, and audiovisual material, as well as other informative content.
  • Adapt informative and outreach material to each of its target audiences, as well as translate scientific-healthcare language into journalistic style, ensuring that information reaches the public in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Centralize the relationship with the media and communication agencies to generate scientific and healthcare information.
  • Organization of scientific outreach events and coordination of press conferences and institutional acts.
  • Ensure the correct management of the corporate image.
  • Prepare the annual communication report.

Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (UCC+I)

ISABIAL is part of the UCC+I network of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), under the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities. The accreditation of ISABIAL’s UCC+I will boost the scientific outreach of the excellence in healthcare and biomedical research carried out in the province of Alicante.

To fulfill its purpose, ISABIAL promotes excellence in research and encourages the transfer of the knowledge generated to society. One of ISABIAL’s strategic objectives is to increase the visibility and social impact of its research activities, as well as to strengthen scientific outreach and public engagement in science.

Accreditation as a UCC+I makes it possible to improve scientific communication by increasing the dissemination of research results through scientific outreach activities aimed at different audiences, with special focus on patient groups, who are the primary beneficiaries of the projects carried out at ISABIAL.

Young people are also an essential part of the ISABIAL UCC+I target audience. The research institute encourages scientific vocations among students in the province’s educational centers through actions organized by the UCC+I, such as the annual Ciencia Abierta-OPEN DAYS. These sessions were awarded in the third call for Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) in Health, promoted by the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII) in 2024.
