Scientific advisory body of ISABIAL, composed of prominent figures in the field of health sciences who have distinguished themselves through their professional and scientific careers and whose work aligns with the objectives of ISABIAL. Its current composition is detailed below:

She holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Navarra, specialized in Rheumatology, and earned her PhD from the University of Barcelona. She is currently the Coordinator of the Rheumatology Research Group at the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute, focused on translational research in chronic inflammatory arthritis. Her research areas include genome‑wide association studies in immune‑mediated inflammatory diseases (WGAS‑IMID); predictive models in rheumatoid arthritis; biological signatures associated with therapeutic response using microarray data; and clinical trials in rheumatoid arthritis (phases I–IV). She has been Principal Investigator in 18 research projects and 15 clinical cases, has supervised numerous doctoral theses, and has developed two patents.

Doctor of Medicine from the University of Valencia and specialist in Paediatrics. Associate Professor of Paediatrics (accredited as contratado doctor by AVAP), supervisor of 11 undergraduate final projects by students of the University of Valencia, and Co‑Supervisor of 3 doctoral theses pending defence.

Clinical Head of the Paediatrics Department at the General University Hospital of Valencia, where he carries out his clinical work within the Reference Unit for Obesity and Cardiovascular Risk in Children and Adolescents of the Valencian Community..

Member of the Paediatrics, Innovation, Translation and Technology in Childhood Obesity Group of the Biomedical Research Networking Centre for the Physiopathology of Obesity and Nutrition of the Carlos III Health Institute (CIBEROBN). He has participated in 29 regional, national, and international research projects as principal investigator and collaborator, all related to cardiovascular risk and the treatment of obesity from birth through adolescence. He is the author of 66 national and international scientific publications.

Member of the COST Action HyperchildNet Prevention Group. Member of the Working Group on Hypertension in Children and Adolescents of the European Society of Hypertension. Member of the Spanish Society of Paediatrics, the Spanish Society for the Study of Obesity, and the European Society of Hypertension. Coordinator of the Health Promotion Committee of the Spanish Association of Paediatrics and Secretary of the Working Group on Childhood Obesity of the Valencian Society of Paediatrics.

Doctor in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 1993 from the Autonomous University of Madrid, at the “Severo Ochoa” Molecular Biology Centre (CSIC‑UAM; Madrid), under the supervision of Margarita Salas. In that same year, she moved to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (Cold Spring Harbor, New York, USA), joining the laboratory led by Carol W. Greider as a Postdoctoral Fellow.

She returned to Spain in 1997 to take up a position as Group Leader at the National Centre for Biotechnology (CSIC; Madrid). In 2003, she moved to the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO, Madrid) as Head of the Telomeres and Telomerase Group and Director of the Molecular Oncology Programme. María A. Blasco served as Deputy Director of Basic Research from 2005 until June 2011, when she was appointed Director of the CNIO.

Her research has focused on demonstrating the importance of telomeres and telomerase in cancer and in ageing‑related diseases. In 2014, she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Carlos III University of Madrid.

Doctor of Medicine and Surgery, he is currently Scientific Director of the BioCruces Health Research Institute and Scientific Director of the Centre for Biomedical Research in Diabetes and Associated Metabolic Diseases (CIBERDEM). He is also President of the Spanish Society of Paediatric Endocrinology (SEEP), Deputy Director of Research at Cruces University Hospital, and Associate Professor of Paediatrics at the University of the Basque Country (UPV‑EHU), with four accredited six‑year research periods.

He is Principal Investigator at CIBERDEM, at the Centre for Biomedical Research on Rare Diseases (CIBERER), and of a consolidated research group. He is also a member of the Steering Committee of the Hvidore Group of Children Diabetes. He has published more than 200 scientific articles and has an H‑index of 27, with 45% of his publications in the first quartile of their category, and has served as Principal Investigator in 36 research projects.

Doctor of Medicine and Surgery, he is currently Medical Director of Hospital Clínic de Barcelona and co‑coordinator of the Barcelona Colorectal Cancer Early Detection Programme. As Director of the Gastrointestinal and Pancreatic Oncology Research Group at the August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS), he develops his research lines in colorectal cancer genetics and screening strategies. In these areas, he has published more than 300 manuscripts in national and international journals, as well as 50 book chapters. He is currently co‑coordinator of the multicentre projects EPICOLON, aimed at characterizing hereditary and familial colorectal cancer, and COLONPREV, aimed at establishing the best strategy for colorectal cancer screening.

Doctor in Epidemiology and Community Health (2007) from Rey Juan Carlos University. Her postdoctoral work at the University of Toronto focused on health care policies and the promotion of safe care for nurses and patients at both national and international levels. She holds a Nursing degree from the University of Valladolid (1981) and a Master of Science from the University of Montreal (1993). She serves as a reviewer for national and international research projects, as well as for several international nursing journals, and is also the coordinator of a thematic research network on ageing and frailty (RETICEF). She has led several projects funded at the national and European levels. Her research focuses on three main areas: a) Efficiency of health services delivered by nursing professionals to older adults; b) Analysis of nursing processes and staffing characteristics, as well as their impact on patient outcomes; c) Improvement of evidence‑based practice and knowledge transfer in clinical nursing practice, including the factors that influence such transfer.

Doctor of Medicine and Surgery and Specialist in Pathological Anatomy, he is currently Head of the Department of Pathological Anatomy at the Ramón y Cajal University Hospital, and leader of the research group “Molecular Cancer Pathology Group” at the Ramón y Cajal Institute for Health Research. His work focuses on the molecular characterization of breast, ovarian, and endometrial cancer and its diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive implications. In this field, he has published more than 200 articles.

Doctor of Medicine and Surgery from the Autonomous University of Madrid in 2004. She previously graduated from the Complutense University of Madrid in 1996 and trained as a Cardiologist at Hospital de la Princesa (Madrid), completing her specialist training in 2002. Since 2005, she has been a full‑time Consultant in Cardiology at University College London, working at the Heart Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital, caring for families affected by cardiomyopathies.

In 2016, she became Director of Cardiology in the Hereditary Aortopathies Service. In 2017, she was appointed Cardiovascular Director of the NIHR in close collaboration with the South London Cardiovascular Research Network. She actively participates in research and teaching in Sports Cardiology at St George’s, University of London (SGUL). Since 2019, she has been an Honorary Member of Cardiology at SGUL. In 2020, Dr. Tome was appointed Interim Director of Genomic Medicine in Cardiology at the South East London Genomic Medicine Service Alliance.
